Welcome to the Center for Multimodal Imaging
We are an interdisciplinary group of scientists and clinicians
who study the human brain using a variety of
imaging/recording/computational techniques. Our goal is to
bridge non-invasive imaging technologies to the underlying
neurophysiology of brain neuronal circuits for better
understanding of healthy human brain function, and mechanisms
of disruption of this function in diseases such as Alzheimers,
epilepsy and stroke.
- Mission and Goals:
-
To develop and apply advanced imaging techniques to understanding the human brain and its disorders. Noninvasive methodologies include structural MRI, DTI, fMRI, PET, MEG, and EEG. In order to ground these methodological developments in their underlying neurobiology, invasive studies in humans and animals involving optical and microphysiological measures are also performed. These methodologies are applied to understanding normal function in sleep, memory and language, development and aging, and diseases such as dementia, epilepsy and autism.
- Facilities:
-
The Center occupies 5000 square feet of assignable space in the La Jolla Professional Center, across the street from the UCSD campus and convenient to the Medical School and Keck Center. It has a cold room with extensive computational resources and a 1GB link to the campus backbone. Dr. Brewer directs the Human Memory Laboratory located in the La Jolla Professional Center, and Dr. Devor directs related animal research in space assigned by Neurosciences to Dr. Dale in the Medical Teaching Facility.
- Faculty and Staff:
-
One Neurosciences/Radiology Professor (Dr. Dale), one Radiology Professor (Dr. Halgren), one Neurosciences Instructor (Dr. Bui), one Neurosciences/Radiology Clinical Instructor (Dr. Ances) and one Psychiatry Assistant Professor (Dr. McDonald) are located in MMIL; one Radiology/Neurosciences Assistant Professor (Dr. Brewer) and one Neurosciences Assistant Professor (Dr. Devor) are in associated facilities; 3 Research/Project Scientists (Drs. McEvoy, Fennema-Notestine, and Haggler (pending)) ; 3 computational scientists (Drs. Holland, Roddey and Abe); 2 post-doctoral fellows (Drs. Brown and Rimol); 2 research residents from Radiology (Drs. Karow and Ahmadi); 2 graduate students (White, Bangera). Thirty-five scientific and administrative support staff work at the MMIL.
- Publications:
-
MMIL investigators have published approximately 80 peer-reviewed papers since 2004.
